Body camera footage of S.C. shooting contradicts police claims

COLUMBIA (AP) - Body camera footage of a police shooting last month in South Carolina contradicts the Greenville County Sheriff's Office's first account of the incident.

The sheriff's office originally said its deputy shot the Simpsonville homeowner after he jerked open his door and pointed a gun at the officer checking a medical alarm just after midnight on June 14.

But the body camera footage released Monday shows the deputy shoot at a man holding a gun through a narrow window beside the closed door.

The man was a few steps from the door. The body camera footage shows the man telling the deputy he has a concealed weapons permit and feared someone was breaking into his home.

The homeowner didn't fire and wasn't charged. Criminal and internal investigations into the shooting continue.
