A Nissan dealership coming to Broad Street is under construction and recently had changes to its site plan approved.
The 21,000-square-foot building is set on just more than 4 acres at 2600 Broad St., which is on the south side of the street west of the intersection with Wilson Hall Road.
The dealership was originally approved in 2017, and a revision was approved in September, according to Jeff Derwort, a senior planner for Sumter.
Changes to the site plan include moving the building farther back on the site to add two rows of parking for sales inventory in front of the building. According to documents from the Sumter City-County Planning Commission, there will be a total of 297 parking spaces at the business, including 58 regular spaces, three handicapped spaces and 236 spaces reserved for inventory.
The applicant, Hoyt + Berenyi LLC, agent for property owner Sumter Real Estate Holdings LLC, proposed trees and shrubbery to be planted as buffers from the road.
The primary design of the building and look of the building will remain the same, featuring a showroom and service center.
Kyle Taylor with Hoyt + Berenyi LLC said construction has started and, while he doesn't have the construction schedule, a typical project of this scale takes about 12 months to complete.
