A franchise owner and also the development adviser for the project spoke this week on a new Take 5 Oil Change service center that is starting construction at 1142 Broad St., next to Burger King.
Franchisee Grant Gilbert, based in the Charlotte area, said Take 5 is trying to revolutionize the oil change industry with its operations and customer service focus.
"It's 'stay in your car,' and you're in and out in less than 10 minutes," Gilbert said, "and our No. 1 goal is customer satisfaction."
According to the main website, Take 5 Oil Change has operations in 18 states in the Southeast, Southwest and Midwest. The Palmetto State is home to 13 service centers with three currently under construction (Sumter, Mt. Pleasant and Boiling Springs in Spartanburg County).
Tyler Baldwin of Cypress Development Partners in Columbia, an adviser in the construction project, said the new service center will be the franchise's standard, three-bay design, and the Broad Street site is a little more than half an acre. According to documents filed with the Sumter City-County Planning Commission, the new facility will be 1,438 square feet.
Gilbert said the store is expected to open before the summer.
