Calvin "Kool-lay" Baker, 57, was born on Jan. 19, 1963, to the late Willie and Rosa Bell Hunter Baker. He completed his earthly journey and was called to eternal rest on Monday, Sept. 21, 2020.

At an early age, Calvin joined Mechanicsville United Methodist Church. He was educated in the public schools of Lee County and attended Ashwood Central High School. After graduation, he worked for Bryant Smith for eight years, in the industrial field for 10 years, Baker Salvage for 10 years and his final working days were with J&M Auto Sales as a mechanic, from which he retired.

He leaves to cherish his memories: five daughters, Nicole (Johnathan) Smalls, Rateisha Gillard (Willie Smith), Shequesha (Travis) Rhodan, Jalisa Small and Barbreanna Baker, all of Bishopville; nine grandchildren; two brothers, Thomas (Essie) Baker and Danny (Carolyn) Baker, both of Bishopville; four sisters, Willie Mae Baker of Loris, Geraldine Baker, Jean Louise Toney and Dorothy Greene, all of Bishopville; a special friend, John Martin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting face masks and social distancing be observed by relatives and friends at all home visitation at 85 Tims Drive, Bishopville.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Raymond Cook Jr. officiating.

Funeral procession will leave at 2:30 p.m. from the home.
