LANDER UNIVERSITY

GREENWOOD - Lander University has announced the names of 607 outstanding undergraduates who have been named to the Dean's List for earning top academic achievements during the second semester of the 2020-21 school year. To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must earn a grade-point average between 3.5 and 3.9. Local students earning recognition for their academic achievements of making the Dean's List at Lander University are:

- Sumter - Lauren Coker.

Lander University announced the names of 470 undergraduate students who have been recognized with the honor of making the President's List during the second semester of the 2020-21 academic year. To qualify for the President's List, a student must earn a GPA of 4.0 over the course of the semester. Local students receiving this honor are:

- Bishopville - Joel Seymour;

- Dalzell - Liam Miller;

- Sumter - Erin Currier; Haleigh Jordan; McKenzie Michelson; and Jessica Palmer.

Lander University conferred bachelor's and master's degrees upon 363 students during the university's 163rd commencement ceremony on May 11.

Liam Francis Miller of Dalzell graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and received the Golden L. Award, which is given to graduates who earned a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher during the last 60 hours of instruction at Lander.

Kelsey Monique Brown of Timmonsville graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

THE COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON

CHARLESTON - The College of Charleston recently awarded undergraduate and graduate degrees during Spring 2020 Commencement ceremonies.

The following local students earned degrees:

- Bishopville - Katelyn Brannon graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology;

- Sumter - Clayton Merritt graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science; Tradd James graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science; Elizabeth Piasecki graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology; Madeleine Shuler graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English; Alaysha Maple graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication; JaQuira Wallace graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health; and Jazmine Dinkins graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology;

- Manning - Laura Drose graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Arts Management; Amy Reynolds graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology; and Jonathan Kindell graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology; and

- Dalzell - Brenda McPeeks graduated with a Certificate in English To Speakers Other Lang I.

UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA

TUSCALOOSA, Alabama - The University of Alabama awarded some 5,860 degrees during its spring commencement ceremonies April 30-May 2. The following local students graduated:

- Sumter - Naima Clark received a Bachelor of Science in Human Environmental Sciences; and Davis Kellogg received a Bachelor of Science in Commerce & Business Administration.

TROY UNIVERSITY

TROY, Alabama - Troy University is pleased to announce students who have been named to the Chancellor's List for the spring semester and Term 4 of the 2020-21 academic year. Full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who earn a GPA of 4.0 qualify for the Chancellor's List. Term 4 includes students at Troy's campuses in Dothan, Phenix City and Montgomery, Alabama, along with locations outside of Alabama and online.

Local students named to the Chancellor's List include:

- Pinewood - Ariana Somcheen; and

- Summerton - Emily Isgett.

WOFFORD COLLEGE

SPARTANBURG - Wofford College conferred 364 degrees on 350 graduates during the 2021 Commencement exercies on Sunday, May 16. Area students receiving degrees are:

- Sumter - Ross Christian Campbell received a Bachelor of Arts in Government and Humanities with a minor in Business; Jacob Henry Dippold received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Government with Concentrations in Film and Digital Media and American Politics, cum laude; James Patrick Muldrow received a Bachelor of Science in Biology; and Andrew James Reynolds Jr. received a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Wofford College senior Andrew Reynolds of Sumter received the "Heart of a Terrier" Award. The "Heart of a Terrier" Leadership Awards recognize those students who have made a positive difference on the campus and excelled in scholarship, leadership and campus citizenship and service. The academic major awards are decided by the college's faculty. Seniors are recommended by the major departments on the basis of academic achievement, character and intellectual promise. Some of the awards are named in honor of persons who have made significant contributions to the intellectual life of the college.

CEDARVILLE UNIVERSITY

CEDARVILLE, Ohio - Rachael Ann Woodbury of Manning graduated from Cedarville University on the weekend of April 30-May 1 with a Master of Science in Nursing.

FURMAN UNIVERSITY

GREENVILLE - In a virtual ceremony that took place in May of last year, Furman University President Elizabeth Davis conferred degrees on 671 students in the class of 2020. Additional students graduating in August and December of 2020 bring the total to 705.

More than 350 members of the class of 2020 returned to campus this year for a special in-person graduation ceremony. Antonia Holler of Wedgefield graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology. Holler's parents and/or guardians are David Holler and Josie Holler.
