CARLA ANN "MIMI" PIERSON SMITH

Carla Ann "Mimi" Pierson Smith, 57, wife of D. Mark Smith, died Saturday, Aug. 31, 2019, at MUSC in Charleston.

Born Sept. 21, 1961, in Sumter, she was the daughter of James Baxter Pierson and Nancy Locklair DuBois. She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church. Mrs. Smith was a 1978 graduate of Wilson Hall. She received Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She retired from Palmetto Health Tuomey after more than 30 years of service. Carla loved the outdoors, USC Gamecocks and traveling, especially when she was with her family. She had a happy spirit and brought joy to everyone she touched.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years; her father, and his special friend, Linda Ingram of Sumter; her mother and stepfather, Edmund DuBois, of Sumter; two children, Brittney Smith Hawkins (Greg) of Sumter and Heath Smith of Cayce; a granddaughter, Evie Elizabeth Hawkins; two brothers, James B. "Jimmy" Pierson, Jr. (Michelle) of Manning and Chris Pierson (Christine) of Lexington; her Labrador, Jada; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Alice Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Jock Hendricks and Mr. John Benenhaley officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Michael Creel, Phil Woodcock, Shawn Dolen, Tyler Brown, Tim Herbert and Troy Pierson.

Honorary pallbearer will be Claude Latham.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.

Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Dr., Suite 301, Cayce.
