Catherine Gore Brown, 72, departed this earthly life on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, at Palmetto Health Tuomey, Sumter.
Born on Oct. 9, 1945, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Johnnie A. Gore Sr. and Janie Wilson Gore. She was educated in the public schools of Lee County and was a 1965 graduate of Mount Pleasant High School. She attended Morris College to further her education and worked as a substitute teacher in Sumter County schools for a period of time. At an early age, she joined Unionville AME Church and was a faithful worker as the church secretary for 35 years until her health failed.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her brother, Johnnie A. (Joan) Gore Jr. of Sumter; a sister-in-law, Frances Wilson; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces, great-grandnephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her brother, 101 Vining St., Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, with the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, pastor, eulogist.
The procession will leave at 1:45 p.m. from the home of her brother.
Burial will be at Unionville AME Churchyard cemetery.
