Cavaliers sweep Calhoun Academy with 1-0 win, will play for state title

ST. MATTHEWS - Dustin Kennedy tossed a 2-hit shutout to lead Robert E. Lee Academy to a 1-0 victory over Calhoun Academy on Tuesday at the CA field and sweep their best-of-3 SCISA 2A baseball state playoffs semifinal series.

The Cavaliers, who improved to 23-3 on the season, advance to the state championship which begins on Monday.

Kennedy struck out four and did not walk a batter. He was 2-for-4 at the plate.

REL got its only run in the top of the first as Austin Windham's fielder's choice scored Jenkins McCullum.

Keaton Price also had two hits for Robert E. Lee.

The Cavaliers will face the winner of the other series between Williamsburg Academy and Colleton Prep. That series is tied 1-1 with Williamsburg playing host to Colleton Prep in Kingstree on Thursday.

COLUMBIA - Ben Lippen scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat Laurence Manning Academy 6-5 on Tuesday at the BL field and force a deciding game in their SCISA 3A state playoffs semifinal series.

The third game of the series will be played on Thursday at Tucker Belangia Diamond in Manning.

Jake Jordan's single in the top of the eighth scored Gabe Harris to put the Swampcats up 5-4.

Ben Lippen won the game on Zack Sutton's single to left field that scored Tripp Williams.

LMA, which fell to 17-5, scored twice in the top of the sixth to open a 4-1 advantage. However, the Falcons tied the game with three runs in the bottom of the inning.

Brewer Brunson led the LMA offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run batted in.

Wilson Hall 22

Trinity-Byrnes 0

Wilson Hall clinched a piece of the SCISA Region III-3A title with a 22-0, 3-inning victory over Trinity-Byrnes on Tuesday at Patriot Park SportPlex.

Andi Grae Wingate pitched the shutout and went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI and three runs. Sydney Jarecki had two hits, including a 2-run double, and scored three runs.

Carly Allred had two hits and scored three runs, Caitleigh Bryant had two hits and two RBI, Ellie Stone had two hits, including a double, an RBI and three runs, Ansleigh Epps had two this and three RBI, Dani Hanley had three RBI, and Sophie Greene and Mary Clair Lee both scored three runs.

Wilson Hall is 8-15 overall and finished 7-1 in the region.

Laurence Manning 11

Florence Christian 3

MANNING - Laurence Manning Academy clinched a piece of the SCISA Region III-3A title with an 11-3 win over Florence Christian School on Tuesday at Julie Skolar Field.

Breanna Boykin had three hits to lead LMA's 14-hit attack. Trinity Harrington had two hits, including a double, and two RBI, Hannah Truett had two hits and an RBI, Madison Truett had a hit and two RBI, and Madison Rainwater had two hits, three runs and an RBI.

Elizabeth Hussey picked up the win, striking out 11 in 4 1/3 innings.

The Lady Swampcats are 12-6 overall and finished 7-1 in the region.
