Charles E. "Chuck" Hembree, 84, widower of Marjorie Ellen Simpson Hembree, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at his home.
Born Nov. 10, 1934, in Lenoir, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Theodore Hembree and Margaret Fink Hembree Sides. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service and was a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a longtime member of Christian Tabernacle Church, where he served as an elder and a deacon.
Survivors include a son, Mark Hembree (Nancy) of Williamsport, Pennsylvania; two daughters, Marcia McCammon (Patrick) and Robin Wells (Charles), both of Sumter; four grandchildren, Erin McLeod, Dawn Finkbeiner, Seth Hembree and Owen Hembree; a great-grandchild, Landon McLeod; and two sisters, Rebecca Lowery of North Carolina and Patricia Ippolito (Tony) of New York.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua McCammon; a sister, June "Daisy" Russell; and brothers, Hubert Hembree, Patrick Sides and Gary Sides.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Porter officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
