Charles William Player, 71, died on Friday, Sept. 17, 2021, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born on Oct. 4, 1949, in Sumter, he was a son of the late Mack Calvin Player Sr. and Lucille Bradshaw Player. He was employed by Madison Industries. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era.

Survivors include a son, Christopher W. Player (Meredith) of Monroe, North Carolina; and a brother, Mac C. Player of Sumter.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elizabeth McAllister, Annette McLeod and Frances Schwabenbauer.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ron Bower officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Shaun Mangum, Michael Gardner, Woody Newman, Michael Boykin, Nick Painter and Wayne Rogers Jr.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
