Charlie L. Jones, 73, was born on Feb. 4, 1947, in Quincy, Florida, to the late Edward and Annie Mae Rawls Jones. He departed this earthly life on Monday, Dec. 7, 2020, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital, Columbia.

Charlie attended the schools of Gadsen County, Florida. He began playing the guitar at a very early age. He took an old white wash pan, nailed a flat board to it, put several wires on it and began to make tunes. When his dad heard him, he immediately bought him a guitar. Charlie began playing guitar for gospel groups at the age of 10, which was the beginning of his musical career.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his fiancée, Jenita Mason of Sumter; two sons, Samuel Jones of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and Charlton Jones of Lynchburg; one brother, Edward Jones Jr. of Blountstown, Florida; three sisters, Charity Marlowe, Artie McLeroy and Apostle Lerther Yhap, all of Quincy; a special nephew, Craig McLearoy; a special godsister, Dorothy Addison; two special godsons, Jashan Brooks and Jaxon McDuffie; and a host of other nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Minister Annette Walker.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter, with the Rev. Harry Clark officiating.

The procession will leave at 1:30 p.m. from the home.

Homegoing celebration and final resting place will be at a later date in Quincy.
