Charlie Lee Brown, 73, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, on April 10, 1951.
Charlie served in the United States Air Force for almost 21 years and retired with an honorable discharge as master sergeant in 1992. He met his lovely wife, Grace West Brown, while stationed at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, and they were married in 1982. Charlie’s extensive military career allowed he and his wife to travel the world, and as part of his military service he was stationed in Guam, Taiwan, and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Charlie was a faithful member of Second Presbyterian Church, Sumter, under Pastor Ella Busby, until his health declined.
Charlie is survived by his wife of Sumter; a brother, Zannie Brown and his wife, Shirley, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; nieces, Dr. Melody Russell and her husband, Dr. Jared Russell, of Auburn, Alabama, and Karla Dolby, J.D., of Atlanta, Georgia; and nephew, Cyrus Brown, J.D., and his wife, Takiyah, of Greensboro, North Carolina. Charlie is also survived by great-nephews and niece, Jared Russell II, Gabrielle Dolby and Caleb Dolby, loving family, and a community of dear friends, who will deeply miss him.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Dec. 9, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Second Presbyterian Church, 1125 Old Pocalla Rd, Sumter. Family visitation will also be held at Second Presbyterian Church at noon.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2024, at Piedmont Memorial Gardens, 3663 Piedmont Memorial Drive, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, 27107.
