Christine Cooke Johnson, affectionately known as Chris, peacefully accepted her eternal wings on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2018, at Down State Hospital, Brooklyn, New York. Born Feb. 1, 1948, in Lee County, she was the daughter of John and Phyllis Bishop Cooke. She attended Dennis High School in Bishopville, where she enjoyed English class, singing, attending dances and was involved in many clubs and extra-curricular activities. Upon graduating, she moved to New York in search of employment. She secured many jobs but ultimately retired from the ABC network after more than 30 years of service as a financial coordinator.

She married her long-time friend, Alex Johnson Jr., on Sept. 1, 1979. Christine became an active member at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she expressed her musical gift by serving in the choir and leading songs such as "I've got a testimony."

She is survived by her siblings, Bertha Cooke, Mabel Miller, Rebecca (Charles) Vereen, Isaac (Hettie) Cooke, John (Mamie) Cooke, Shirley (Randy) Dixon, Ronnie Hickmon, Shirley Joe and Joe Louis (Pamela) Pouge; her daughter, Shalaina "Shay"; three grandchildren, Jessiah, Leilani and Marquis; a host pf nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the home, 516 James D. Herriott Road, Dalzell.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow at noon from the New Haven United Methodist Church, 3159 Red Hill Road, Bishopville, with the Rev. Blondell S. Miller, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 11 a.m.

The funeral procession will leave from the home at 11:20 a.m.

Burial will be in the New Haven United Methodist Church Yard Cemetery.
