CHRISTINE WELLS JOHNSON

Christine Wells Johnson, 68, wife of Walter June, was born on June 28, 1951, in Lee County, to the late Malichi Wells Sr. and Hattie Lee Rouse. She passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2019.

Christine attended public schools in Lee and Sumter counties. She was employed with Federal Mogul and Young's Market Inc., before her health declined.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory: two daughters, Margaret Ann Johnson of Sumter and Maezell Johnson of Brooklyn, New York; three granddaughters, Tiara McGee (Desmond) Middleton, Dessiree Johnson and Quanasia Wilson; two grandsons, Azauntae Peterson and Morris Hardy; siblings, Annie Bell (Kirven) Dunham, Malichi Wells Jr., Bobbie J. Singleton, Robert (Von) Wells, Laverne (Marie) Wells, Jannie Kennedy, Lila Marshall, Gerome Wells and Delphine Pearson (Chris); five great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Estella G. Wells, who was like her own sister, Rouvenia Dinkins, Betty June, Patricia Washington and Bert June; one brother-in-law, Herbert June Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Christine was preceded in death by her former husband, Deacon Bobby Lee Johnson; a son, Emmanuel Lee Johnson; a brother, Nathaniel Wells; and a sister-in-law, Sandra Wells.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Johnson will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Sunday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with Elder James S. Gibbs Sr., eulogist, and Dr. David Laws Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Mayesville Community Center.

The family will receive friends at the home, 1823 Millwood Road, Sumter, SC 29150.
