- Saturday, Aug. 5 - Back-to-school bash from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Kings Highway Community Park, 2035 N. Kings Highway/S.C. 261, Dalzell. Event is free and open to the public. Representatives from the Sumter Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Santee-Wateree Department of Mental Health, Sumter County Fire Department, Sumter County EMS and Helicopter Landing/Departure will be on hand to discuss school issues, bullying, mental health, etc. Free school supplies and free lunch for the children. Get registered to vote while attending as well.

Knitting Hearts for Christ Ministry, which meets at Bethesda Church of God, 2730 Broad St., announces:

- Saturday, Aug. 12 - Knitting Hearts for Christ will meet from 10 a.m. to noon. Revivalist Nicole Smyth will lead us in exploring prophetic words released to men and women throughout Scripture. Have you ever received a word from the Lord about the direction of your life? Maybe you had a dream, or a prophet spoke over you, and you knew that word was from God, but the question of "Now what?" comes to mind.
