Harvin Library celebrates legacy of Peggy Parish

MANNING - Join the Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., as it celebrates the 100th Anniversary of Children's Book Week and the legacy of Peggy Parish's work. A dedication ceremony will be held at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, followed by a reception with refreshments and an activity for children. This event is free and open to the public. This program is sponsored by the Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Pacific Wood Products LLC-Clarendon and the South Carolina State Library. CCDC selling dinners on May 3, turn in orders soon

MANNING - The Clarendon County Detention Center is hosting a dinner sale to raise funds for its annual December "Helping Hands Luncheon." The dinner menu is baked or fried chicken quarter, macaroni and cheese, yellow rice, green beans, a dinner roll and cake for $8. Orders must be turned in by noon on April 30. Delivery is available for orders of four or more within a 7-mile radius of the detention center. Meals will be ready at noon on Friday, May 3. Community Health Fair scheduled for May 3-5

MANNING - A Community Health Fair will be held Thursday-Sunday, May 3-5, at the Maranatha SDA Church, 314 W. Huggins St. On May 3, a seminar will be held from 7 to 8:15 p.m. On May 4, seminars will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Screenings and activities will be held from 12:45 to 5 p.m. A panel and question-and-answer session will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The closing seminar will be held from 6:40 to 8 p.m. On May 5, a healthy cooking demonstration will be held from 10 a.m. until noon. The fair will feature prizes, food and fun for all ages.

Cancer OverComers Walk is May 4 at park

MANNING - The 1st Clarendon County Cancer OverComers Walk will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at J.C. Britton Park, 3057 Raccoon Road.

The event is being presented by the Clarendon County Cancer OverComers and the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office. The event will feature an OverComers' Walk, a luminary celebration and lots of free food, fun, games and music.

In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Clarendon County Community Complex, 10 Maple St., behind Weldon Auditorium.

Free Housing Seminar set for May 11

MANNING - Persons interested in homeownership are encouraged to attend the free Housing Seminar from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 11, at The Council on Aging, 206 S. Church St.

The workshop is sponsored by the Clarendon County CDC Housing packager, Pamela Clavon-Brunson, who will share valuable information concerning ownership even if you have credit challenges or other issues.
