Clarendon briefs: Blood drive, farmers market and volunteers needed

McLeod Health Clarendon will

host blood drive on Aug. 17

MANNING - McLeod Health Clarendon, 10 E. Hospital St., is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 17. All donors will receive a $10 Visa card. To make an appointment, please contact Stacy Mosier at (803) 435-3156.

Face coverings are recommended while donating and are required in Manning. All donors will be tested for COVID-19 antibodies with every blood donation.

Volunteers needed for The Holy Donut Shoppe; meeting is Aug. 25

MANNING - The Holy Donut Shoppe, 13 W. Boyce St., is looking for volunteers to man the shop when it opens in late September. If anyone is interested in volunteering, a meeting has been planned for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 25 at the shoppe. Ann Driggers, the executive director of Jordan Crossroads Ministry Center-Haven of Rest, will be conducting the meeting. Individuals who are interested in becoming volunteers are asked to provide their Social Security number along with their date of birth. Background checks will be conducted on all potential volunteer candidates.

Manning Farmers Market is open

Businesses can join Clarendon Chamber's promotion campaign

MANNING - The Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce is promoting businesses throughout the county through its "Going Green for Prosperity and Growth" campaign. To be a part of the campaign, contact the Chamber at (803) 435-4405 or email chamber@clarendoncounty.com and a Chamber staff or board member will drop off a sign to display in the window of your business and a green bow. A photo will be taken of you with your sign and posted on social media.

Chamber is accepting nominations for annual awards until Aug. 21

MANNING - The Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce is now accepting nominations for Business Person of the Year, Citizen of the Year and Ambassador of the Year.

The annual awards are sponsored by Bank of Clarendon, Farmers Telephone Cooperative and George and Carole Summers, respectively.

Duckfest T-shirts are on sale

SUMMERTON - The T-shirts for 2020 Summerton Duckfest are on sale.

Short-sleeve T-shirts in sizes small to extra large are $15 each. Short-sleeve T-shirts in sizes 2X and larger are $18 each. Long-sleeve T-shirts are $25.

The T-shirts can be purchased at Summerton Drugs, Ginger's Flower Shop and Summerton Hardware.

Christina Darby, director of development of the Sumter Heart Walk American Heart Association, said the virtual tour shows the hard work that the Manning-Sumter teams did to make this year's event so successful.

Second-annual OverComers' celebration will be a drive-through

MANNING - The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office in partnership with Clarendon County Cancer OverComers is hosting the second-annual OverComers' Drive-Thru Celebration.

The COVID-19 pandemic changed the annual event from an actual walk to a drive-through event with participants remaining in their vehicles. Free take-out meals will be handed out while supplies last.

The proceeds from the sale of the T-shirts and hats will go to the Clarendon County Cancer OverComers' organization.
