Electronic Recycling Day set for June 26

MANNING - The Clarendon County Recycling Department is hosting an Electronic Recycling Day for Clarendon County residents only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 26 at the county administration building, 411 Sunset Drive. SHRED-WITH-US will be on site to shred important documents.

Items that will be accepted include: TVs with screens intact, monitors, video display devices, all intact computers, CPUs, keyboards, mice, printers, CD/DVD players, game consoles, small handheld electronics, cellphones, stereo tuners, radios, speakers, microwaves and vacuum cleaners.

Items that will not be accepted include: refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, mercury-containing devices (thermometers, fire alarms), hazardous waste chemicals, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and bio waste.

Shining Light Awards to be held July 30

MANNING - The Light Foundation, a nonprofit organization, will honor five individuals with its Shining Light Award at the Sapphire Ball - Black Tie Affair beginning at 6 p.m. July 30 at the Matrix Center.

The foundation's board of directors honors individuals and groups who make vital contributions in rural communities throughout the state and who make difficult decisions to enhance excellence and encourage others to follow in their footsteps.

Sheriff's office hosts blood drive on July 8

MANNING - The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office in partnership with The Blood Connection is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. on July 8 at the sheriff's office, 217 Commerce St.

Clarendon County Sheriff's Office celebrates National Hot Dog Day on July 23

MANNING - The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is celebrating National Hot Dog Day from 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the sheriff's office, 217 Commerce St. Stay inside your vehicle and drive through the front driveway.

The free hot dog meal will include a hot dog with chili, chips, a dessert and a drink.

Clarendon CDC offers Outreach Program

MANNING -The Clarendon County Community Development Corporation's Community Outreach Program is available now. Funded through the Department of Commerce, this initiative is offered to eligible applicants 65 years old and over, low to moderate income, handicapped/disabled and households with children ages 5-16.

The categories for funding are food, back-to-school clothing and utility bills. Applicants must make their own copies of current proof of income information, photo identifications of everyone 18 years old or older living in the household and a copy of their utility bill to submit when returning their applications.

Individuals who received assistance in 2020 are asked to not apply at this time so that others have a chance to receive aid. Applications may be picked up from noon to 3 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays only at the CDC office, 625 Spencer St. Applicants can sign in and pick up one application from a table located in the CDC's front office. In order to maintain safety protocols, there will be no long lines, congregating or large groups allowed.
