Fire and life safety fair day will be Saturday

MANNING - The Clarendon County Fire Department, 219 Commerce St., is hosting a Fire and Life Safety Community Fair Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event will feature a vehicle extrication, fire extinguisher training, side-by-side live burn, rollover simulator by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, child car seat inspections, a kids' firefighter course, tours of the station and fire trucks and lots more, including free hotdogs. Parking will be available in the old Walmart Shopping Center with shuttle service to the event.

Brain health walk is on Saturday morning

MANNING - The Walk for Brain Health will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Manning High School football field's track area, 2155 Paxville Highway.

The event is sponsored by the Clarendon County Pilot Club, LMA Anchor Club, Manning High School FFA and Agape Hospice.

Registration will begin at 9 a.m. and the walk at 9:30 a.m. Refreshments, prizes and more will be offered. To participate, please offer a $10 donation.

Duckfest's 2019 Duck Cup will be held Oct. 12

SUMMERTON - The 2019 Duck Cup, the sporting clays tournament portion of the 2019 Duckfest, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 12 at Featherhorn Farm, 7011 Gov. Richardson Road, Pinewood. Teams and individual competitors are invited. The adult competition is for ages 17 and older, and the youth competitors must be 16 years old and younger.

Shooters of all levels, advanced, intermediate, beginners, hunters and anyone with a shotgun are encouraged to enter the competition. Prize amounts to more than $3,000 will be awarded.

CSD1 hosts 5th Annual Fall Festival

SUMMERTON - Clarendon School District One is hosting its 4th Annual Fall Festival at 6 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Clarendon One Community Resource Center, 1154 Fourth St. The special guest will be Dr. Anthony Broughton, a professor a Claflin University, a children's author and artist. The festival will feature door prizes, refreshments, workshops, games and lots of fun for everyone.

Francis Marion Symposium to be held Oct. 25-26

MANNING - The annual Francis Marion Symposium will be held Oct. 25 and 26 at the Central Carolina Technical College's F.E. DuBose Campus, 3351 Sumter Highway. The symposium includes numerous guest speakers and two dinner theatres. "Come immerse yourself in Frances Marion's world and the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution with other Revolutionary War enthusiasts, right in Manning."

Clarendon County CDC update

MANNING - The Clarendon County Community Development Corp. will not be accepting any home repair applications during the months of November and December 2019. Homeowners will be able to apply until Oct. 31 for assistance. The CCCDC will resume taking applications on Jan. 6, 2020. The South Carolina State Housing and Trust Fun has endorsed this announcement.

The CCCDC is still in need of qualified, certified and licensed contractors who have Workmen's Compensation and other required paperwork. Please contact the CCCDC at (803) 435-6639 and ask for Pamela Clavon-Brunson if you need additional information.

CSD2 schools to be open on Oct. 28

MANNING - Clarendon School District 2 will use Oct. 28 as a bad weather makeup day for the time the district was out because of Hurricane Dorian. All CSD2 schools will be open on Oct. 28.

Halloween Fest on Oct. 31

MANNING - Sen. Kevin L. Johnson is sponsoring his annual Halloween Fest from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the corner of Boyce and Boundary streets. The event will feature ghoulish games, freaky fun and frightening food.

Fall Pumpkin Party on Oct. 31

MANNING - HopeHealth Pediatrics, 11 W. Hospital St., is hosting a Fall Pumpkin Party from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Drop by in your favorite costume and be prepared to enjoy a haunted house, games, loads of treats, snacks and much more.

E-waste event is rescheduled for Nov. 16

MANNING - Clarendon County will offer an E-Waste Recycling Collection Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Administration Building, 411 Sunset Drive, for Clarendon County residents only. Shred-with-Us will be on site to shred important documents free of charge.

Items that will not be accepted include refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, mercury-containing devices (i.e. thermometers and fire alarms), hazardous waste chemicals, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and bio waste.

Youth Self Defense and Safety Awareness Training on Oct. 22

MANNING - The Law Enforcement Class at F.E. DuBose Career Center is sponsoring a Youth Self Defense and Safety Awareness Training class from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at F.E. DuBose Career Center, 3351 Sumter Highway.

The "Helping to Protect Our Children" event is free to students ages 5 to 16. Officers with Manning Police Department and Clarendon County Sheriff's Office will be conducting the training.
