Clarendon briefs: P.E.O. Yard Sale on Saturday will have something for all

MANNING - The Presbyterian Church of Manning, 233 N. Brooks St., is hosting its P.E.O. Yard Sale beginning at 8 a.m. Oct. 19 at the church.

The sale will feature something for everyone, including tools, furniture, housewares, linens, electronics, sports equipment, clothes, toys and holiday decorations. The money raised will go to support the church's scholarships, grants and loans for women.

Francis Marion Symposium will be held Oct. 25-26

MANNING - The annual Francis Marion Symposium will be held Oct. 25-26 at Central Carolina Technical College's F.E. DuBose Campus, 3351 Sumter Highway. The symposium includes numerous guest speakers and two dinner theaters. "Come immerse yourself in Frances Marion's world and the Southern Campaign of the American Revolution with other Revolutionary War enthusiasts," according to its website.

Think Pink Community Prayer Breakfast is Oct. 28

MANNING - The annual Think Pink Community Breakfast sponsored by the Clarendon County Cancer OverComers and the Clarendon County Sheriff's Office will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the Clarendon County Community Complex gymnasium directly behind Weldon Auditorium.

Attend job fair on Oct. 29

PAXVILLE - The Paxville Community Development Corp., 10183 Lewis Road, is sponsoring a job fair from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 29. CSD2 schools to be open on Oct. 28 as makeup day

MANNING - Clarendon School District 2 will use Oct. 28 as a bad weather makeup day for the time the district was out because of Hurricane Dorian. All CSD2 schools will be open on Oct. 28.

Halloween Fest sponsored by senator is on Oct. 31

MANNING - Sen. Kevin L. Johnson is sponsoring his annual Halloween Fest from 5 to 8 p.m. Oct. 31 at the corner of Boyce and Boundary streets. The event will feature ghoulish games, freaky fun and frightening food.

E-waste event is rescheduled for Nov. 16

MANNING - Clarendon County will offer an E-Waste Recycling Collection Event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 16 at the Administration Building, 411 Sunset Drive, for Clarendon County residents only. Shred-with-Us will be on site to shred important documents free of charge.

Items that will not be accepted include refrigerators, washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers, mercury-containing devices (i.e. thermometers and fire alarms), hazardous waste chemicals, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes and bio waste.

Free Youth Self Defense and Safety Awareness Training on Oct. 22

MANNING - The Law Enforcement Class at F.E. DuBose Career Center is sponsoring a Youth Self Defense and Safety Awareness Training class from 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 22 at F.E. DuBose Career Center, 3351 Sumter Highway.

The "Helping to Protect Our Children" event is free to students ages 5 to 16. Officers with Manning Police Department and Clarendon County Sheriff's Office will be conducting the training. The Black and Blue Gala will be held Nov. 9

MANNING - The Black and Blue Gala hosted by The Inv. Holmes N. Smith Foundation Inc. will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Nov. 9 at The Matrix Center, 4648 Kingstree Highway. Clarendon CDC won't accept applications during November, December

MANNING - The Clarendon County Community Development Corp. will not accept any home repair applications during November and December 2019. Homeowners will be able to apply until Oct. 31 for assistance. The CCCDC will resume taking applications on Jan. 6, 2020. The South Carolina State Housing and Trust Fund has endorsed this announcement.

The CCCDC is still in need of qualified, certified and licensed contractors who have Workmen's Compensation and other required paperwork. Contact the CCCDC at (803) 435-6639 and ask for Pamela Clavon-Brunson if you need additional information.
