Clarendon CDC to offer COVID-19 relief

MANNING - Families who have been affected by COVID-19 may get some relief from the Clarendon County Community Development Corp.

The Central Carolina Community Foundation has awarded the Midlands Response Grant of $5,000 to the Clarendon County CDC to assist families with rent/mortgage payments and utility bills. The money is intended to enhance efforts already in place by various other community agencies so that more people can be served.

"We need to get this information out as soon as possible because applications can be picked up beginning next week," said Paulette King, program director at the Clarendon County CDC. "We're excited to be able to offer this funding."

Because of limited funding, applicants may only apply for either rent/mortgage assistance or utility bill assistance, not both. Individuals meeting the following criteria may apply: age 65 and older, handicapped/disabled (a statement from their physician is needed verifying their status), low- to moderate-income status (proof of income must accompany application), IDs for everyone living in the household that are age 18 or older must be provided, and a copy of the utility bill or monthly mortgage/rent payment and to whom it is paid.

Individuals who received services from the Clarendon County CDC or have applied for services with the Clarendon County CDC within the past year can not apply for this round of funding.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Clarendon County CDC is not open to the public; however, applications for this round of funding can be picked up from 10 a.m. until noon on Aug. 25 and Aug. 26 outside the offices at 625 Spencer St. No face-to-face discussion or contact will take place.

Applications and paperwork can be returned to the Clarendon County CDC from 10 a.m. until noon on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1.
