MANNING - These warm spring days have gardeners eager to get their fingers into the rich soil and begin planting vegetables, plants and flowers that they'll be able to enjoy in the months to come.

The Clarendon County Master Gardeners are offering both novice and pro gardeners an incentive to begin planting now.

"The Clarendon County Master Gardeners are having a pre-sale on two wonderful tomato varieties; the heirloom Cherokee Purple and Sun Gold tomato plants are ready to be planted now," said Master Gardener Marie Land. "The Cherokee Purples are delicious, and the Sun Gold tomatoes are wonderful little tomatoes that are great to snack on and perfect in salads."

The Master Gardener Pre-Sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 15 in front of the gazebo on Keitt Street across the street from Land, Parker and Welch Law Firm.

The Master Gardeners' annual plant sale is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 30 and 8 a.m. until noon May 1.

"We'll have annuals, perennials, pass-along plants, more tomato plants, and Stan McKenzie, the 'Citrus Man,' will be there selling citrus plants," Land added. "The flowers in our greenhouse are blooming like crazy, and we'll have plenty for people to buy."

Land asked that individuals attending both sales wear facial masks, and they'll have plenty of space to social distance.

"We're so excited to have this early sale," Land said. "The Cherokee Purples and the Sun Golds are ready to plant now. The weather is perfect for planting."

Land said that the Master Gardeners' annual plant sale is always a tremendous success and that popular varieties always sell out fast.

"We have such a good time with these sales," Land added. "We enjoy getting to see fellow gardeners and share tips and planting ideas."
