Clarendon Master Gardeners' Plant Sale on April 10 to follow social distancing rules

MANNING - True southerners and a few northerners alike know that nothing is better during the sweltering summer months than a freshly sliced tomato right out of the garden tucked between two pieces of bread and a little mayo to make it interesting. Mayo or salad dressing, that's for another story.

The Clarendon Master Gardeners are offering you the chance to make those summer wishes come true with a special sale from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. or while supplies last on Good Friday, April 10, in the parking lot at Land, Parker & Welch across from the gazebo on West Keitt Street.

"We have some really beautiful and special plants," said Master Gardener Marie Land. "We didn't want them to go to waste, so we decided to have the special sale. With everyone staying home, it would be a great time to work on that garden you've always wanted."

Beautiful Victory Garden Heirloom Tomato Plants will be on sale for just $5 per plant. While Master Gardeners will be on site, the sale will be on the honor system to keep in compliance with Gov. Henry McMaster's social distancing request. Buyers will need to have the correct change, or they can drop a check made payable to Clarendon Master Gardeners in the payment box.

The sale comes right in time if you're a firm believer in the Farmer's Almanac. According to the almanac's April 2020 calendar, April 22-24 is the perfect time to plant above-ground fruits and vegetables, including tomatoes, corn, melons and peppers.

While you'll be enjoying the fruits of your labors this summer, the proceeds from the sale will benefit the Master Gardeners' education and scholarship funds.
