MANNING - The Clarendon County Sheriff's Office is gearing up for the observance of Red Ribbon Week, Oct. 21-25.

A national campaign to increase the awareness of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs as well as violence prevention among school-age children, Red Ribbon Week is observed annually during October. The theme of the 2019 campaign is The Power of One.

"To heighten the excitement and awareness, I am asking all schools to accept my contribution to your school's student body," Clarendon County Sheriff Tim Baxley said in a letter to all Clarendon County schools. "I would ask that you have a daily drawing at your school to give away a gift from me to a student each day."

Baxley asked each school to send a picture of its winner to his office daily so that the winning student can be recognized on the CCSO's Facebook page as well as in the local media. The names of all the winners will be compiled, and a grand prize winner will be chosen Oct. 28. The winner will be asked to visit Baxley at the CCSO and have lunch with him and his command staff.

"I would like to thank (each) school for (its) participation in Red Ribbon Week and (for) making Clarendon County a safe place to live," Baxley added.
