ATKINS — Clarissa "Chris" Stansell Harker, 95, died on Friday, Feb. 5, 2021, following an illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of Layton-Anderson Funeral Home. Streaming will be available on Facebook Live at the Layton-Anderson Facebook page. Interment will follow at Lynchburg Presbyterian Cemetery, Lynchburg.

Born in Laurens, she was a daughter of the late James DeForrest Stansell and Lucy Elizabeth Washington Stansell. She was married to the late James Andrew "Jimmy" Harker Jr. Mrs. Harker was a member of Lynchburg Presbyterian Church before its closure, and attended Lynchburg United Methodist Church, where she was a member of its Sunday school class and women’s missionary group. She was a 73-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary — South Carolina Unit 140 and a past member of The Lee Gardeners Garden Club.  

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she is survived by two sons, Jim (Sissy) Harker and Stan (Janet) Harker; two daughters, Gaye (Ken) Araujo and Lucy (Bruce) Paulson; six grandchildren, Allison (Jason) Pierce, Michael Araujo, Jennifer (Wesley) Greene, Andrew (Hannah) Harker, Kelly (Dustin) Roeder and Cole (Alex) Paulson; and seven great-grandchildren, Dylan, Taylor and Demi Greene, Cade and Cate Frances Pierce, Cameron Roeder and Blakely Harker.

She was preceded in death by one brother, John Stansell; and four sisters, Forrest Stansell, Doris Curles, Margaret Jetton and Joanne Baughman.
