The Sumter Art Association met Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the parish hall of the Church of the Holy Comforter. President Carla Young welcomed 43 members and four guests, with a special welcome to new members Heidi Burkett, Gloria Coker and Mary Reed.

Members welcomed four guests: Barbara Gulledge, guest of Frances Betchman; Beth Matthews, guest of Annette Matthews; Shirley Osborne, guest of Andrena Ray; and Bonnie Disney, guest of Carla Young.

Chaplain Ginger Jones presented an inspirational meditation on "The Heart of Christ" and offered a prayer.

Kathy Creech announced a number of cultural events currently taking place in the local community.

Debbie Thomas introduced Annette Matthews and Eddie Huss, both of whom are talented and accomplished musicians, to present the afternoon's program. Mrs. Matthews and Mr. Huss performed a delightful program of piano duets featuring compositions by Samuel Barber, Johannes Brahms, Astor Piazzola and George Gershwin. Highlights included Brahms' "Hungarian Dance" and the theme from Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue."

Following the program, members enjoyed refreshments provided by the hostess committee chaired by Mary Garland Roddey, with Katharine Rauch as co-chair. They were assisted by committee members Gloria Coker, Vicki Goodwin, Beth Jackson, Dotty Lyles, Betsy Lynch, Annette Matthews, Sue Towery, Laurie Townes and Margaret White. The beautiful autumn centerpiece for the tea table was provided by Mary Garland Roddey.
