The Sumter Art Association meeting was held Sept. 18 in the Parish Life Building of the Church of Holy Comforter. President Patti Sosnowski called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone back after the summer break. She gave a special welcome to new members Elizabeth Britton, Lynn Eldridge, Jayne Fort, Linda Fraley and Melissa McLachlan.
Rosemary Drakeford offered a prayer of thanksgiving for our area having been spared the worst of Hurricane Florence and followed with a meditation on worship from a Trinitarian perspective.
Recording secretary Andrena Ray read aloud the minutes from May 15. Vice president Floride McKoy thanked in advance all the hostesses for the coming year for their work with refreshments for meetings. Treasurer Susan Brabham reported the beginning balance for the club year 2018-19. Members paid their dues and received a new handbook. The artwork on front of the handbook was done by Marie Penn.
Attendance chairwoman Ginger Barwick reported that 62 members were present. There were no guests. In the absence of Linda Hogon, Frances Betchman reported numerous cultural events taking place currently and during the fall in Sumter and the surrounding area.
Dotty Lyles introduced the Rev. Stuart Mizelle, pastor of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Mizelle presented a program of Christian music, accompanying himself on the guitar. He sang several contemporary Christian songs as well as the beloved hymn "It Is Well With My Soul." He closed with one of his own original compositions.
Sosnowski thanked Mizelle for his program and adjourned the meeting. She invited everyone to the refreshment table, thanking the hostess committee for their hospitality. Chairwoman was Ann Snead, with Marie Hill serving as co-chairwoman. Committee members were Betsy Acken, Emily Boykin, Betty Brogdon, Jennie Linn Duffie, Berth James, Virginia Anne McLaurin, Floride McKoy, Cissy Snyder, Emily Stroman and Dotty Todd. Marie Hill provided the table centerpiece.
