Clyburn speaks at USC Sumter's OSP Awards Night

House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn, a Sumter native, served as guest speaker at the sixth-annual awards night of the Opportunity Scholars Program at the University of South Carolina Sumter on Tuesday. More than 70 OSP students were recognized for their academic achievements and 44 students for receiving their associate degree. Other awards included the OSP Scholars Representative Award, Academic Achievement Award, Above and Beyond Award and OSP Spirit Award. OSP is a federally funded TRiO Student Support Program that provides academic and cultural support services for eligible students enrolled at USC Sumter. The program is designed to help students complete an associate degree or transfer into a baccalaureate degree program. In 2018, the U.S. Department of Education awarded the USC Sumter OSP Program more than $294,836 to continue providing and expanding the program.
