COURTNEY J. HUBBARD

Posted

Courtney Jamaul "CJ" Hubbard, 28, of Sumter, on Oct. 8, 1990, in Mandeville, Jamaica, the first child and only son to Rose-Marie Richardson (n e Kirby) and he was given his biological father's name, Courtney Hubbard. He went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Jan. 31, 2019, after a short illness.

CJ's family migrated to the United States (Connecticut) when he was only three years old. In 1995, at age four, CJ and his mother followed their hearts to Sumter, where they made a new home with his stepfather, Clarence Richardson, and his only sister, Renee Richardson. At an early age, CJ became a member of Mount Olive AME Church, where he served in the Young People's Department (YPD) and as an usher. This was an important part of his spiritual development. He attended Millwood Elementary, Bates Middle School and Sumter High School, where, in June 2009, he attained his high school diploma with academic honors. CJ was a proud alumnus of Clemson University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering with a minor in mathematics on Dec. 17, 2015. At the time of his passing, CJ was an employee of Lowe's Co. Inc. in Sumter.

He was the best son a parent could ever ask for, a great brother, an extraordinary friend, and an amazing human being. We will miss you, CJ. May your goodness live on in all of us.

He will be missed by his devoted and loving mother, Rose-Marie Richardson; his sister, Renee Richardson; his stepfather, Clarence Richardson; his grandmother, Gwendolyn Kirby of Spaldings, Jamaica; his grandparents, Lillie May and Leroy Richardson of Sumter; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and countless other relatives and friends.
