COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Clarendon

CLARENDON COUNTY - The number of COVID-19 cases in Clarendon County has continued to rise with one death because of the virus documented in the county so far in 2022.

On Jan. 1, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control listed 10 new cases of COVID-19 in Clarendon County with 47 probable new cases. On Jan. 2, the numbers rose to 37 new cases with 44 probable cases of COVID-19. On Jan. 3, SCDHEC listed 32 new cases of COVID-19 with 10 probable cases. On Jan. 4, Clarendon County had 10 new cases of COVID-19 with five new probable cases. On Jan. 5, SCDHEC listed one fatality because of COVID-19 in Clarendon County with 16 new cases and eight new probable cases. On Jan. 6, Clarendon had 24 new cases of COVID-19 documented with 22 new probable cases.

With an increase in documented cases, there is also an increase in the number of individuals being tested.

There are several options for obtaining a free COVID-19 test in Clarendon County.

The county's DHEC office at 110 E. Boyce St. is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. That office offers limited services. Individuals seeking a COVID-19 test need to schedule an appointment online on SCDHEC or call (855) 472-3432 to make an appointment.

Clarendon County Fire Rescue's Community Paramedic Program can assist those interested in being tested for COVID-19. Call (803) 460-7228 to schedule an appointment.

DHEC has partnered with GENETWORx Laboratory to offer free COVID-19 testing in Clarendon County.

The free testing event is open to all county residents as well as individuals from outside Clarendon County.

The drive-through testing site is open from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday in the parking lot at the Clarendon Community Complex, 9 Maple St., which is behind Weldon Auditorium. Test results will be available within 48 hours.
