A 15-year-old Crestwood High School student died Thursday morning after she and two school mates were involved in a single-vehicle wreck on West Brewington Road about 8:16 a.m.

Za’ Mani Fulmore, of Explorer Drive in Dalzell, was transported to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital where she later died of her injuries, according S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. David Jones.

The other occupants were also transported for medical treatment. Their conditions were unknown by press time Thursday.

Jones said the students were traveling west on West Brewington Road in a 2007 SUV, and Fulmore was riding in a rear passenger seat.

The driver lost control of the vehicle while coming up on a curve, he said, went off the right side of the road and struck a tree.

The SUV was wrapped around a tree, almost cut in half, after the crash.

"The loss of a student, classmate and friend has a significant impact on both our students and staff," Shelly Galloway, Sumter School District, executive director of communication and community engagement, said.

"Grief counselors will be available today and as long as necessary in the days to come, in order to help our students and staff members cope with this tragic loss." "Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are extended to all of the families involved," she said.

Fulmore was a member of the school's junior varsity girls' basketball team.

Her next of kin have been notified, Baker said, and an autopsy will be performed Friday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Sumter County Coroner’s Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol and S.C. Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team are investigating.
