Crestwood wins 2nd straight region game 7-5, over LR

HOPKINS - The Crestwood High School varsity baseball team won its second straight Region IV-4A game on Tuesday, beating Lower Richland 7-5 at the LR field.

Desmond McMillian went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in to lead the offensive charge for the Knights, who are 2-5 overall and 2-2 in region play.

Nick Jackson had a triple and two RBI, while Shane Gaymon and AJ Herrera both had two hits and scored two runs. Gaymon also had an RBI.

Gaymon went the distance on the mound, allowing five unearned runs. He allowed six hits and three walks while striking out eight.

On Friday in Sumter, Crestwood scored the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat LR 10-9.

Gaymon went 3-for-4 with a double, a run and an RBI while Rusty Griffin was 3-for-5 with a double, a run and an RBI. R.J. Reed was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBI and a run, Tylik Farmer had a double, two runs and an RBI, Tony Raymond had a triple, a run and an RBI, and Herrera scored twice.

Gaymon worked the final five innings to get the win in relief. He struck out nine and allowed just two hits and a walk, giving up three unearned runs.

COLUMBIA - Laurence Manning Academy fell to 4-2 with a 6-1 loss to Cardinal Newman on Tuesday at the CN field.

Brewer Brunson had three of LMA's four hits. JT Stanley had a hit and an RBI.

Buddy Gales took the loss, giving up just two runs in five innings. He had three strikeouts.

5 - Morgan McChall (B) defeated Daniel Gilman 6-1, 6-4.

Sumter High School fell to 0-2 in Region IV-5A with a 4-0 loss to Blythewood on Tuesday at the SHS field.

The Gamecocks are 6-5 overall.

KINGSTREE - Wilson Hall improved to 7-0 with a 7-1 win over Williamsburg Academy on Tuesday at the WA field.

Carson Wilsey led the Barons with two hits, two runs and two RBI. Clark Kinney had a hit, scored twice and drove in a run.

Blake Van Patten got the win, allowing just one hit in five innings while striking out four. Kinney got the save, striking out five in two innings.

Sumter High School fell to 3-3-1 with a 2-1 loss to Blythewood on Tuesday at the SHS field.

Patrick McKnight scored the Gamecocks' lone goal on a penalty kick.

WALTERBORO -- Sumter Christian School evened its record at 1-1 with a 14-4 win over North Walterboro Christian on Tuesday at the NWCS field.

Haley Carter had three hits, scored two runs and drove in three runs to lead the Lady Bears. Kim Edmunds had three hits, two runs and two RBI.

Ashtyn DuCom had two hits, three runs and two RBI, Lexi Caples had two hits and two RBI, and Jordan Jenkins had two hits and two runs, and Julia Jenkins had two hits, two runs and an RBI.

COLUMBIA -- Cakhi Fowler struck out 10 batters and had two triples to lead Lakewood High School to a 15-5, 6-inning victory over Dreher on Tuesday at the DHS field.

Brittany Epps was 4-for-4 with two inside-the-park home runs, and Keeley Hulse had two doubles. Shanna Ingham and Darby Watford each had a triple.

MANNING - Laurence Manning Academy lost to Cardinal Newman 5-3 on Tuesday at Julie Skolar Field.

Elizabeth Hussey had two hits for the Lady Swampcats, including a double. She also drove in a run.

Madison Truett, Breanna Boykin and Trinity Harrington each had a hit and scored a run. McKenzie Truett also had a double.

Trinity Harrington went the distance in the circle, allowing 10 hits while striking out nine.

BISHOPVILLE -- Wilson Hall School lost to Robert E. Lee Academy 15-1 on Tuesday at the REL field.

Sydney Jarecki had two hits for the Lady Barons. Caitleigh Bryant had a double and scored a run.

BLYTHEWOOD - Sumter High School fell to 0-2 in Region IV-5A with a 5-1 loss to Blythewood on Tuesday at the BHS field.

Jasiah Pack scored the lone goal for the Lady Gamecocks, who are 3-2 overall.

BISHOPVILLE - Sydney Jarecki went 4-for-4 with a double, a home run and four RBI to lead Wilson Hall School to a 17-14 win over Robert E. Lee on Tuesday at the REL field.

Kaylan Boudreau was 3-for-5 with two doubles, Hannah Williams was 2-for-5 with a double and five RBI, MaryBeth VanPatten had a triple and four RBI, and Ava Sliwonik had a double.

COLUMBIA - Jillian Lynch went 2-for-2 with a home run and a triple and score three runs to lead Lakewood High School to a 19-9 win over Dreher on Tuesday at the DHS field.

Whitney Gale and Aliala Hill both scored two runs, and Riley Ruighaver and Bailey Ruighaver reached base three times apiece and combined to score six runs.
