Sumter crime reports: Boys fight, hot tub skinny dipper leaves briefs, pizza delivery driver paid in fake money

The Sumter Police Department provided The Sumter Item with crime reports from Jan. 1-4. Here are some notable highlights.

JAN. 1

Two Sumter boys with different stories got into a brawl on Dibert Street.

Officers responded to a disturbance on Dibert Street, where a mother said her 10-year-old son was assaulted by a 9-year-old boy.

The 10-year-old said he and the 9-year-old boy were playing basketball on Porter Street, and when he won, the 9-year-old became upset, began hitting him in the face and threw a chair at him.

Officers contacted the 9-year-old boy and his mother, and he said he was riding his bike on Porter Street when the 10-year-old boy began chasing him. He stopped the bike and asked him if he wanted to "shoot the thirties." The 10-year-old said yes, and they began to fight.

JAN. 2

A mysterious hot tub skinny dipper left evidence at a Sumter residence.

Officers responded to a house on Hatteras Way in reference to suspicious activity near the hot tub on the property.

The resident found a pair of men's briefs on the back porch near the hot tub. The resident did not know who the large, gray George brand boxer briefs belonged to.

Officers placed a property watch on the residence.

JAN. 4

A pizza delivery driver was paid with counterfeit money after suspects fled with the food from a residence on White Oak Park.

An unknown caller placed a delivery order to Domino's Pizza for two large pizzas, two orders of breadsticks and two 2-liter bottles of soda totaling $48.69.

The delivery driver arrived at the residence, and as he exited the vehicle, a suspect wearing a black puffy jacket and dark jeans walked toward him from the house next door.

The driver said when the suspect walked over to him, he was holding his right side near the waistband and started grabbing in that area. The driver said the suspect was acting nervous and as though he had a gun.

The driver handed the suspect the food items, and a second suspect wearing a white hooded sweatshirt with red coloring and khaki pants began walking toward the vehicle.

Not knowing whether this was a robbery, the delivery driver handed the second suspect the rest of the food items.

The driver asked if they needed any change, and the first suspect dropped three fake $20 bills on the driver's lap and said, "You're good, Merry Christmas," and the suspects ran behind the residence next door.

The delivery driver knew it was fake money because it read "Prop Money."

Officers contacted both residences on White Oak Park, and neither of the residents matched the descriptions of the suspects.

JAN. 7

A Sumter woman and Columbia man face charges resulting from an ongoing domestic dispute.

Susie Alexis Dinkins, 26, of 122 Hoyt St., was charged with second-degree domestic violence.

Dinkins was reportedly accused of cutting a man after an argument at her home turned physical on Monday.

Officers were notified after 3 p.m. that Eric Wells, 35, of Columbia, was being treated for cuts that he likely suffered during the altercation, McGirt said.

After being treated and released, Wells was charged with third-degree domestic violence and malicious injury to property.

Dinkins was booked Monday at the Sumter County Sheriff's Office Detention Center.

The investigation is still ongoing.
