BURGLARY, 1ST DEGREE

Casey Renee Cockerill, 38, of Highview Street in Sumter, was arrested and charged on April 5 with burglary, first degree, according to Sumter County Sheriff's Office Public Relations Officer Adrienne Sarvis.

According to a warrant issued on March 5, Cockerill allegedly entered a house on Caroland Drive without consent on Feb. 26 and removed assorted items from plastic bins. She also allegedly removed a 12-gauge Benelli shotgun and a 30-06 Thompson Venture rifle from their original locations and put them near the rear door of the residence where she allegedly entered. Cockerill was positively identified by the victim and a witness as she fled from the property, according to the warrant.

BREACH OF TRUST WITH FRAUDULENT INTENT

Steven James Carlton, 27, of Village Court, was arrested and charged on April 8 with breach of trust with fraudulent intent, value more than $2,000 but less than $10,000, according to Sarvis.

Carlton allegedly failed to return a 2004 Nissan Altima, valued at approximately $3,000, to the owners after he was entrusted to drive the vehicle to Hopkins on March 31 and return it the following morning. The victims provided law enforcement written statements reporting the same.
