"Bessie Coleman and her Daughters" aviation exhibit open

SUMMERTON - The "Bessie Coleman and her Daughters" 17-panel exhibit is open through Feb. 8 at 4 Main in Summerton. The exhibit, sponsored by 4 Main and the Scott's Branch High School Alumni Association, details the life of Coleman, who was the first black female pilot and the mentor for generations of black female pilots.

Clarendon County CDC begins Phase II of SCDOC grant on Jan. 29

MANNING - The Clarendon County Community Development Corp. will begin PHASE II of the SCDOC Grant Award with its Home Repair Initiative beginning Jan. 29 and ending on Feb. 26.

Applicants must call and make an appointment at (803) 435-6639 to pick up home repair applications. If a person shows up without an appointment, no application will be given. Applicants who are elderly, disabled or handicapped may send a designated person to pick up their application. Please inform the CCCDC staff when making this appointment.

All completed home repair applications can be returned by appointment only from noon until closing Jan. 29 through Feb. 26.

There will be limited applications available for the food, clothing (ages 5-15) and utility grants during this time period.

Recreation registration held through Feb. 14

MANNING - The Clarendon County Recreation Department, 3057 Raccoon Road, will hold registration for T-ball, coach pitch baseball, baseball and softball through Feb. 14 at its Manning location, as well as its Smith Field office, 1380 Gamble Road in Turbeville.

Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday at 3057 Raccoon Road and from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at the 1380 Gamble Road location.

When registering, the following requirements must be met: child's birth certificate, $40 registration fee with a debit/credit card processing fee added and the parent's signature on the registration form. There will be a late fee of $5 assessed on any registration forms accepted after Feb. 14.

Harvin Library closed on MLK Jr. Day

MANNING - The Harvin Clarendon County Library, 215 N. Brooks St., will be closed on Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The library will reopen at 9 a.m. on Jan. 21.

Clarendon Heart Walk Kickoff is March 28

St. Matthias Annual Oyster Roast is Jan. 18

SUMMERTON - The annual St. Matthias Oyster Roast and Catfish Stew will be held at 6 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Flowers' Tomato Shed, off U.S. 301 north of Summerton. Tickets are $40. Proceeds will benefit the St. Matthias Montessori School. Get your tickets early. Every year they sell out fast.
