LYNCHBURG — Graveside service for Dallas Rhodes will be held at 10 a.m. today in Chandler Cemetery, directed by Bacote-Eaddy Funeral Home.

He entered eternal rest on Friday, July 31, 2020.

He was born on Aug. 5, 1950, to the late Walter Nelson and the late Miona Rhodes. At an early age, Dallas joined St. John United Methodist Church and was active in the youth ministries. Dallas spent his early years living in Lynchburg and was a proud member of the 1969 class of Eastern High School in Sumter.  Dallas spent the majority of his adult years in New York, where he retired from Foodliner Trucking Co. after 20 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Wallace Nelson, Charles Nelson and Vivian Nelson.

Survivors include his longtime companion, Cynthia Coleman; five children, Eric Walker (Monica) of McDonough, Georgia, Jermaine Norman (Ruth) of Bronx, New York, Tia McNeil of Sanford, North Carolina, Gregory Ford of Harlem, New York, and Kenan Ford of Long Island, New York; stepmother, Icysbell Nelson; siblings, Joretha Nelson, Sandra (Jerry) Harrison and Overseer Cattie McNeil, all of Florence, Wanda Nelson of Charlotte, Debbie (Hosea) Rogers of Oviedo, Florida, Rosa Mary (James) Rogers of Bishopville, Lana (Carl) Fennell of Wilmington, North Carolina, Betty Wells of Sumter, Kemmie (Shirley) Nelson of Lynchburg, Johnny (Judy) Moses of Bishopville, Bonnie Coker of Lynchburg and Pamela (Alfonzia) Williams of Lynchburg; eight grandchildren; aunts and uncles, Lou Scott of Winston Salem, North Carolina, Mary Quattlebaum, auntie/mother, of Lynchburg, Ella Keals of Sumter, Francine Rhodes of New York, New York, Wallace (Josephine) Rhodes of Winston Salem, Carrell and George Rhodes of Lynchburg and Woodrow Keels of Washington, D.C.; countless extended family members and friends.
