DANIEL GRANT

Posted

Daniel Grant was born on Aug. 21, 1950, the fifth child of Janet Grant and the late Marion Grant. God, in His infinite wisdom, sent His angel to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital in Sumter on Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, to claim His own, Daniel Grant.

Daniel was educated in the public schools of Sumter County and was a graduate of Ebenezer High School, Dalzell, Class of 1968. Daniel gave his life to the Lord and was baptized and joined Rafting Creek Baptist Church. His longest tenure of employment was with Nilson Van and Storage for 15 years and Coleman American for five years, both of Sumter. Daniel was a member of Birnie Elks Lodge 1195, U.S. 15, Sumter, where he served as treasurer, PSP Past State President Council, South Carolina State Association. Daniel enjoyed helping people and was the neighborhood mechanic and home repair person, before his health failed. He was the trusted guardian of his younger cousins and was respected and loved by all who came in contact with him, a very humble person.

He leaves to share his memories: three daughters, Gwen (Robert) Smith of Augusta, Georgia, Detasha (Roosevelt Jr.) Sinkler of Pinewood and Iasha Thomas of Rembert: two sons, Daniel and Marion Thomas of Rembert; 11 grandchildren; his loving and devoted mother, Janet S. Grant of the home; brother, Marion Grant of Hyattsville, Maryland; two sisters, Lizzie (Wallace) White of Augusta and Annette (Johnnie) Dinkins of Rembert; aunts, Bernice Hill, the Rev. Lillian S. Reynolds, Ophelia Spencer and Cornelia (James) Collier, all of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, the family is requesting no visitation at the home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Rafting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 3860 S.C. 261 North, Rembert, with the Rev. Melvin Mack, pastor, officiating, and the Rev. Lillian S. Reynolds, eulogist.

The procession will leave from the home at 1:30 p.m.

Services directed by the management and staff of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
