Darlene Boykin Timmons, 63, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, in her home, surrounded by loved ones.

Born on June 18, 1957, in Lancaster County, Darlene was a daughter of the late Paskell Woodward Boykin and Bernice Elizabeth Boykin.

Survivors include a son, Clifton Boykin Atkinson of Sumter; a daughter, Andrea Atkinson Cotter of Richmond, Virginia; and a lifetime partner, Larue (Robbie) Gainey. Survivors also include the three lights of her life, her grandchildren, Devyn Andrea Atkinson, Ella Grace Atkinson and Rhett Boykin Cotter; a sister, Debra Boykin Anderson; and two brothers, Edward Eugene Boykin and Avery Woodward Boykin.

Darlene was adamant she participate in the Gift of Body Program through the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. She was grateful to be a small part of educating our future clinicians.

An intimate family service to celebrate her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Darlene's home.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the caregivers of Caris Hospice, specifically Jessica and Herlonda. The gift of being home with family in her final months will forever be special and, without the people of Caris, this would not have been possible.

Darlene lived her life for her children and then grandchildren. Her joy was seeing them succeed in life. Her greatest wish was that they have equal opportunities to learn, develop, and grow into whatever they choose. One thing she selflessly did was financially provide for her grandchildren's school.

In lieu of flowers, if you feel called to do so, we ask that you donate towards a fund that will be set up for her grandchildren's education https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-darlene-boykin-timmons?qid=ac4b53433ad4646633728c006b527c7a
