Darrick Lydell Mickens, 40, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2018.

Born on Oct. 2, 1978, in Sumter County, he was the youngest son of George Sr. and Lydia J. Mickens and grandson of the late Alex and Mary A. Burgess Johnson and Douglas and Rosa Davis. He attended public schools in Alexandria, Alabama and Augusta, Georgia. He received his welding training certificate from Central Carolina Technical College in 2014. He was employed by Porter Fabrications as a welder and most recently employed at Caterpillar. He attended Mechanicsville United Methodist Church.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother and father; a sister, Jacqueline D. Gibson of Sumter; a brother, George C. Mickens Jr. of Pineville, North Carolina; a half sister, Pamela R. Smith; a half brother, James Ray of Sumter; special friend, Sara A. Bozeman of Sumter; Carli and McKenzie Krupinski of Sumter, who he took as his daughters; Gabriella Grant of Sumter, who he took as a granddaughter; two nieces, Tyler J. Gibson and Azjaiah N. Mickens, both of Sumter; one aunt, Lillarweise J. (Joe) Seymore of Sumter; two uncles, Wayne and Clarence Johnson, both of Sumter; two granduncles, Henry and Wesley Johnson, both of Brooklyn, New York; and a host of cousins and friends.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 1 to 4 p.m. today at the home, 4460 Cotton Acres Road, Sumter.

Homegoing celebration services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday at Mechanicsville United Methodist Church, 184 Lake Ashwood Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Annie Sistrunk, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

The procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, Sumter.
