MANNING - David "Dickie" Hugh Thompson Sr., 81, husband of Annie Elizabeth Geddings Thompson, died on Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2020, at McLeod Hospice House.

Born on Sept. 22, 1939, in Santee, he grew up in Alcolu. He was a son of the late William Robert Thompson Sr. and Dorothy Russell Cuttino Thompson. He was the owner and operator of Thompson Concrete Co. He was a member of Home Branch Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and the choir director for a number of years. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of Thompson Hunt Club. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years; two sons, David Hugh Thompson Jr. (Vanessa) of Summerville and Matt Thompson (Tiffany) of Sumter; three daughters, LaNelle McLeod (Larry Butch) and Susan McDonald (Harvey), both of Sumter, and Melissa Catoe (Chris) of Dalzell; one son-in-law, Dave Gutstein (Joann) of Charlotte; 18 grandchildren, Preston McDonald, Devin McDonald, Joseph McDonald, Emily McDonald, Alex Crowley, Kayleigh Crowley, Jared Gutstein, Zachary Gutstein, Noah Catoe, Thomas Catoe, Christina Catoe, Will Catoe, David H. Thompson III, Jackson Thompson, Joshua Thompson, Emma Kate Thompson, Jordyn Edwards and Harper Thompson; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Tommy Thompson, Luke Thompson, Phillip Thompson, John Thompson and Sammy Thompson; five sisters, Caroline Thompson, Effie Russell, Theresa Black, Thelma Easley and Peggy Williams; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Angel Thompson and Mary Beth Thompson Gutstein; one grandson, Zeke Catoe; and two brothers, Bobby Thompson and Toy Thompson.

An outdoor service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Home Branch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Revs. Allan Glass and Sammy Thompson officiating.
