David Kenneth Smith, age 81, beloved husband of Judith D. Bass Smith, died on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2020, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.

Born in Spindale, North Carolina, he was a son of the late Otis Mayrock Smith II and Lois Moss Smith. After high school, Dave attended Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, North Carolina, before he was drafted into the Air Force. During his career in the Air Force, he spent time in Germany, Myrtle Beach and Vietnam. He retired after 23 years of service as a master sergeant. Dave went to work with a finance company in Charlotte, North Carolina, and then moved to Natchez, Mississippi, where he met his wife and best friend, Judy Bass. They married and eventually settled in Sumter when he retired. It was at that time that he went to work for Ray's Keyboards while also working alongside Judy as vendor stockers at the commissary on Shaw Air Force Base.

Surviving in addition to his wife are one sister, Deanna McJunkin; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Michael Ray Smith and Otis Mayrock Smith III; and one sister, Ramona Carlton.

Due to COVID-19, the family will hold a celebration of life at a later date.
