David M. Purvis Sr., 80, widower of J. Beatrice Henderson Purvis, died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019, at the Gardens of Sumter.

Born June 26, 1939, in Darlington, he was the son of the late Van G. Purvis and Martha Adeline Anderson Purvis. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a retired truck driver and former owner of Purco. He was a member of Sumter First Church of the Nazarene.

Survivors include two sons, David "Ray" Murray Purvis Jr. (Teresa) and Van Purvis (Carla); a daughter, Allison Paige Purvis (Ron); five grandchildren, Devin Purvis, Mary Elease Purvis, Leslie Alison (Caleb), Kendall Privett and Brandi Graham; two great-grandchildren, Mitchell Purvis and Callie Rae Purvis; and two sisters, Ruth Douglas and Jeanette P. Newsome.

He was preceded in death by siblings, Archie Hobson, Mary H. Ardis, Haynes L. Hobson, Ben Hobson, Ann H. Gainey and his twin sister, Joyce P. Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Wise Drive Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. Sammy Geddings officiating. Burial will be in the Sumter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home, 707 Cardinal St.
