DENNIS L. WRIGHT GAYLE
Dennis Leander Wright Gayle was born on July 16, 1963, in Wedgefield, the second eldest child of Luke Gayle Sr. and Elizabeth Gayle. He entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2018.
Dennis, affectionately known as "Perk," resided in Wedgefield all of his life. He was a 1982 graduate of Hillcrest High School, Dalzell. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior and attended Bethel AME Church.
Dennis was married to Marie Daney of Alcolu and was the father of four sons and one daughter: Desmond Daney of Charlotte, North Carolina, Donnell Wright of Charlotte, Garrett Wright of Daytona Beach, Florida, Desmond Blanding of Sumter and Marie Wright, who preceded him in death. He was the grandfather of 11 grandchildren.
Dennis was a hard worker. He was employed by Anderson Transfer and Storage in Sumter for more than 30 years. His employment at Anderson Transfer afforded him many travel opportunities.
In addition to his children, he leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories: his parents, Luke Gayle Sr. and Elizabeth Gayle; three sisters, Shirley Taylor, Barbara Johnson of Wedgefield and Shelia Gayle (the Rev. Kenneth) Howard of Blythewood; two brothers, James Wright of Wedgefield and Luke (Bennie) Gayle Jr. of Wedgefield; seven nephews and nieces; three uncles; eight aunts; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Wright will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with the Rev. Larry Clark officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the home of his parents, 66 Sally St., Wedgefield, SC 29168.
Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
