DOLLIE MAE TONEY CARTER

Dollie Mae Toney Carter, affectionately known as "Tiny Mae," was born on Oct. 25, 1942, to the late Daisy Mae Toney. Mrs. Carter departed this life on Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

She was educated in the public schools of Lee County. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized, becoming a faithful member of Unionville AME Church in Mayesville, until her health declined. Dollie Mae was married to Sidney Carter Sr. for 55 years and she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Carter was an avid lover of all flowers and puzzles. She loved decorating for the holidays. She also enjoyed her daily walks with friends in the mall.

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband, Sidney Carter Sr.; three daughters, Rebecca (Allen Jr.) Butler, Melinda (Kenneth) Hudson and Katrina (Clarence) Carter; two sons, John (Coey) Toney and Sidney (Calandra) Carter Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Edith Mae McGhee of Sumter; three sisters-in-law, Shirley Carter Durant of Sumter, Pearl Carter and Jo Ellen Carter, both of Paterson, New Jersey; special cousins who were raised in the home with her; a special classmate, Marie "Sweet" Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In addition to her mother, Mrs. Carter was preceded in death her sisters, Clara Toney Davis and Rebecca Commander McCants.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at Unionville AME Church, 2036 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, SC 29104 with Pastor Alvin E. Webb, eulogist, and the Rev. Joshua Dupree officiating.

Interment will follow at Unionville AME Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at 310 Kendal Ave., Sumter, SC 29154.
