Donna Jean Atkinson, 74, wife of James W. Atkinson, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital.
Born Sept. 19, 1947, in Cincinnati, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Dewitt Griffis and Oneida Coffee Griffis. She was a member of Alice Drive Baptist Church and served as a volunteer at the hospital and in the jail ministry.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years; four children, James Paul Wiechering (Kimberly Hope) of Sumter, John Louis Wiechering of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, Mark William Atkinson (Amanda Danielle) of Greenville and Catherine Atkinson; grandchildren, Brittnie Korrine Buff, James Scott Wiechering, Bryce Matthew Wiechering, Liam James Atkinson and Dustin Bauer; great-grandchildren, Karson Buff, Easton Buff, Landon Buff and Waylon Buff; and siblings, Brenda Bunch, Gary Griffis, Susan Young, Melodie Griffis, Melinda Weber, Sheila Gilkeson and Timothy Griffis.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Terry Griffis and Wendell Griffis.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Alice Drive Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Clay Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at Alice Drive Baptist Church.
