The uncertainty of the trek of Hurricane Dorian and its possible arrival along the South Carolina coast has left the local high school sports scene in an uncertain state as well.

Sumter High School's varsity football game against Conway is still officially on just in case Dorian takes a sharp right and heads back out into the Atlantic Ocean. However, SHS athletics director Curtis Johnson isn't too hopeful, saying he thinks Conway would have to be in school on Thursday for there to be a game on Friday.

Sumter's girls golf and volleyball matches scheduled for Thursday have been postponed as has the junior varsity football road game in Conway. The B football game on the road against Lexington is still scheduled.

The three Clarendon County school districts will be operating on a half day on Wednesday and will be closed on Thursday.

Manning is scheduled to play Lakewood in varsity football in Sumter. Lakewood athletics director Frankie Ward said if Manning returns to school on Friday there is a possibility the game will be played on Saturday at J. Frank Baker Stadium.

Scott's Branch is supposed to play at Bamberg-Ehrhardt on Friday. Scott's Branch athletics director Leonard Johnson said if both schools have classes on Friday, they will play on Friday.

East Clarendon has a bye week in football, but the rest of its athletic events this week are canceled, as is the case with Manning and Scott's Branch.

Crestwood is scheduled to play football in Columbia against Richland Northeast, while Lee Central is to travel to Timmonsville. Both games are still set for Friday.

Wilson Hall is scheduled to travel to Charleston on Friday to face First Baptist in football, and no decision has been made on that yet.

Laurence Manning Academy and Thomas Sumter Academy were still following their original schedules. Robert E. Lee Academy has cancelled volleyball and JV football on Thursday, but is still set to face Dillon Christian in varsity football on Friday.
