DR. ROSE ANN HILLIARD-WILDER

ALCOLU - On Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, Dr. Rose Ann Hilliard-Wilder, wife of Dr. James C. Wilder, exchanged time for eternity at her residence.

Born on Friday, Nov. 4, 1955, in Santee, she was a daughter of the late Laco and Ruby Mae Fogle Davis. Dr. Rose Ann Hilliard-Wilder was a trailblazer in the educational realm in South Carolina. She received her bachelor's, master's and Doctor of Education Degree from South Carolina State College.

She began her professional career as an elementary school teacher in Orangeburg County School District 3. She then became an administrator in Clarendon County School District 2. After establishing herself as a fierce advocate for children and an exceptional leader, she became the first Black female superintendent in South Carolina. She served as superintendent of Clarendon County School Districts 1 and 2 and Fairfield County Schools. After retirement from Clarendon County School District 1, she was appointed by the state superintendent of education to serve as superintendent of Williamsburg County Schools. She also served on the faculty of Morris College in Sumter.

Public viewing will take place from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Fleming & DeLaine Chapel, 222 W. Boyce St., Manning.

A private funeral will be held at a later date.

In accordance with the requirements given by the CDC in reference to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family is not receiving relatives and friends at the residence.
