Drivers encouraged to be cautious

According to a news release from Shelley Kile, communications director with the City of Sumter, rainfall in Sumter overnight is expected to be heavy. Drivers are encouraged to use extreme caution as there could be flash flooding in low-lying areas. Do not drive around barriers or through flooded roads.

A wind advisory is in effect until 2 a.m. Tuesday. Winds could reach 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. This could make driving difficult especially for high-profile vehicles such as campers and RVs.

In the case of an emergency, call 911.
