Early voting for runoff with no waiting in Sumter

Sumter resident participates in early voting for an upcoming runoff election on Wednesday at the old Sumter County Courthouse, 141 N. Main St. Sumter County has five runoffs set for Tuesday, two days before Thanksgiving. Early voting will continue today and Friday at the courthouse and at the former F.J. DeLaine Elementary School, 5355 Cane Savannah Road, Wedgefield, with no indications of having to wait in line. Hours of operation at both sites are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Early voting allows registered voters to cast their ballots before Tuesday without an excuse, as opposed to absentee voting. Curbside voting is also available, according to the Sumter County Voter Registration and Elections Office. The five runoffs include four Sumter school board races in redrawn districts 1, 2, 4 and 8. Sumter City Council Ward 1 also has a runoff. Voters need to provide one form of photo identification. A registered voter must reside in one of the runoff districts to be eligible to vote but did not have to have voted in the general midterm election earlier this month. An individual's voter registration card lists in which district he/she resides. For more coverage, go to www.theitem.com/election2022.
