EDITH MAE TONEY MCGEE

Posted

Edith Mae "Monkey" Toney McGee, 80, began her life's journey on July 18, 1939, being born to the late Daisy Toney of Mayesville and Manny Carter of Bishopville. She left us on Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, to go home to our Lord Savior Jesus Christ.

She was raised with the affection of her mother and uncle Fess. She attended the public schools of Lee County. With her unique wisdom and ability to handle her sisters and cousins, she quickly became the family favorite for all the cousins to be around. As Monkey matured as a young lady, her plan for education quickly resolved as she met the love of her life, Booker T. McGee Sr. of Oswego, whom she married and began the journey of her life. With her husband, she gave birth to six of his children.

She is survived by her children, Booker T. (Luella) McGee Jr., Willie H. (Debbie) McGee, Leroy (Marilyn) McGee, Tyron (Kimberly) McGee, Sarah Fredrica, (Johnny Ray) McGee; stepdaughter, Juantia (PeeWee) Issac Green; her grandsons whom she raised, Todd (Derrick) Damon, Kelvin Mitchell, Willie McGee Jr. (Lil Hayward), Tasheed (Spike) Nelson, whom she loved; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home of her son, 730 Flamingo Road, Sumter.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, with the Rev. Alvin E. Webb, pastor, eulogist.

The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.

The funeral procession will leave at 10:20 a.m. from the home.

Burial will be at Unionville AME Churchyard Cemetery.

Services directed by the management and staff of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
